Leica X2 - Moderate Aktualisierung

Mit der X2 bringt Leica eine aktualisierte Version seiner Kompaktkamera mit Spiegelreflex-Qualitäten. Die Verbesserungen gegenüber der X1 betreffen vor allem Sensor, Autofokus und Geschwindigkeit.

Die schlechte Nachricht zuerst: Zoom wie bei Canon G1 X oder gar Wechselobjektive wie bei der Fujifilm X–Pro1, wie von vielen Leica-Fotografen erhofft, bietet auch die neue Leica X2 nicht. Sie kommt unverändert mit dem fest integrierten Leica Elmarit 2,8/24 mm Asph. als Objektiv, das etwa der klassischen, leicht weitwinkligen KB-Reportagebrennweite 35 mm entspricht.

Neu bei der Leica X2 ist der 16-Megapixel CMOS-Sensor im APS-C-Format. Er arbeitet jetzt in einem erweiterten Empfindlichkeitsbereich von ISO 100-12500. Trotz der höheren Pixelzahl auf der gleichen Fläche verspricht Leica geringes Bildrauschen, einen hohen Dynamikumfang und eine akkurate Farberkennung. Von der erhöhten Auslesegeschwindigkeit des neuen Sensors soll auch die Schnelligkeit der Autofokus-Reaktion profitieren. Serienbelichtungen von jetzt maximal 8 Fotos hintereinander nimmt die X2 jetzt mit maximal 5 B/s auf. Diese können als DNG-RAW und/oder JPEG-Dateien gespeichert werden.

Bei dem geringfügig schmalerem und höherem Gehäuse im alten Leica-M-Stil fällt vor allem der erhöhte Zubehör- und Systemblitzschuh für die Leica-Blitzgeräte SF 24D und SF58 auf. Dieser kann, anders als bei der X1, jetzt den neuen, elektronischen Visoflex-Aufstecksucher EVF2 mit 466666 RGB-Pixeln aufnehmen, den Leica optional anbietet. Er sieht auf dem Foto genauso aus wie der Olympus-Sucher VF-2 zu den Pen-Kameras und nicht wie der LVF2 von Panasonic zur Lumix GX1. Zur X2 passt auch der schon von der X1 bekannte optionale optische Leuchtrahmen-Sucher. Unverändert geblieben ist außer dem Objektiv auch der nur 2,7“ große LCD-Monitor mit nur mäßiger 76666-RGB-Pixel-Auflösung. Wie schon bei der X1 dient ein ausfahrbarer Mini-Blitz auch bei der X2 der Vordergrundaufhellung.

Bei der Bedienung und Kamerasteuerung reicht das Leica X2-Angebot von Programmautomatik bis hin zu manuellen Einstellungen sowie diversen Belichtungsmess- und AF-Charakteristika inklusive Gesichtserkennung. Abgesehen von Aufnahmemodi wie Standard, dynamisch, natürlich und Schwarzweiß verzichtet Leica bei der X2 auf weitergehende, bei anderen Digitalkameras beliebte Features. Motivprogramme, automatische Szenenerkennung oder Digital-Effekte finden sich ebenso wenig wie eine (HD-)Videofunktion. Die klassischen Bedienungselemente und die klare Menüführung geben keine Rätsel beim Umgang mit der X2 auf. Leicht modifiziert hat Leica die Haptik der X2-Bedienungselemente, die Belederung und die Oberflächen.

NIKON D800

Die wichtigsten Merkmale im Überblick:

Nikon FX bzw. Kleinbildvollformat-Bildsensor mit 36,3 Megapixel,AF-System Multi-CAM3500FX mit 51 Messfeldern, ISO 100 bis 6’400 (erweiterbar auf ISO 25’600), Nikon EXPEED 3 Prozessor.

Videos lassen sich in verschiedenen Bildformaten in Breitbandqualität aufzeichnen. Die D800 filmt in Full-HD-(1080p) über die gesamte Sensorbreite (Bildwinkel des Vollformats) oder auch mit einem Sensor-Ausschnitt (reduzierter Bildwinkel) mit 1.5x Brennweitenverlängerung. Als Bildraten stehen in Full HD 30p, 25p und 24p und bei 720 auch 60p, 50p, 30p und 25p zur Wahl. Als Container für Video (H.264/MPEG-4 Advanced Video Coding) und Audio (Lineares PCM) dienen .MOV-Dateien.
Die D800 bietet unkomprimierte Video-Ausgabe per HDMI an externe Geräte (z.B. HDMI-Recorder) sowie Audiosteuerung und analogen Kopfhöreranschluss für Audiokontrolle.
Die D800 ist reaktionsschnell und zuverlässig. Sie schiesst 4 Bilder/s im 36.3-Mpx-Vollformat (FX-Bildformat und 5:4-Bildformat) sowie 5 Bilder/s in kleineren Formaten (im 1,2-fach-/DX-Bildformat). Der SLR-Sucher bietet eine Bildfeldabdeckung von 100 Prozent. Der Verschluss ist auf 200’000 Auslösungen ausgelegt. Die Auslöseverzögerung beträgt lediglich 42 Millisekunden.
Das robuste Magnesiumgehäuse ist wasser- und staubdicht.

Multi-area Mode Full HD D-movie with three image area options

A dedicated movie-record button has been positioned near the shutter-release button for smooth starting and stopping of movie recording with a feel similar to that of still-image shooting. Full-HD movie recording at a frame size of 1920 × 1080 and frame rate of 30 fps is supported, and the H.264/MPEG-4 AVC video compression method has been adopted. Movies up to 29 minutes 59 seconds can be recorded. Image sensor sensitivity begins at ISO 200 and can be expanded to ISO 204800 equivalent possible with still-image shooting.

Full-HD movies can be recorded with the D4 using one of three image areas: FX-based movie format, DX-based movie format, or 1920 × 1080 crop; all available at 30 fps/ 25 fps or 24 fps. FX-based movie format makes full use of the large image sensor, enabling movies with an emphasis on pleasing blur characteristics. When a DX lens is attached, DX-based format is automatically selected. This format is useful for creating an extension to the focal length of an existing lens. For an even stronger telephoto effect, the 1920 × 1080 crop format brings an approximately 2.7x crop of the picture angle while delivering outstanding video quality and detail, obtaining 1080p Full HD. By choosing the movie format appropriate for the particular scene, the three image area options available with a single camera enable more flexible imaging expression through collaboration with the entire NIKKOR lens lineup, including DX lenses.

The D4 is equipped with a connector for external microphones that enables stereo recording. The camera also offers a headphone connector that supports stereo headphones, convenient for checking sound recorded with movies. What's more, a new sound level indicator also allows for microphone sensitivity adjustment, even during recording, with a visual indicator of sound levels.

Jetzt ist es offiziell! Heute wurde die NIKON D4 offiziell von NIKON angekündigt - meine nächste Kamera - definitiv - endlich - Wow....!

Nikon wird mit der D4 im Februar 2012 eine komplett überarbeitete Profi-DSLR auf den Markt bringen. Gegenüber der D3S wurden praktisch alle relevanten Eigenschaften überarbeitet und verbessert: Das abgedichtete Magnesiumgehäuse soll besser in der Hand liegen und ist etwas leichter geraten, das Autofokusmodul wurde verbessert und der Belichtungsmesser verfügt nun über die 90-fache Menge an Messpunkten. Der neue FX-CMOS-Sensor löst 16,2 Megapixel auf, ihm zur Seite steht ein leistungsfähigerer Bildprozessor, mit dessen Hilfe die D4 elf Bilder pro Sekunde aufnimmt. Deutlich überarbeitet hat Nikon die Videofunktion, außerdem kommt in der D4 erstmals das neue XQD-Speicherkartenformat zum Einsatz.

NIKON D4: Vollformat-DSLR mit 16 MP in Planung?

Vor rund zwei Monaten stellte Canon mit der EOS 1D X seine nächste Vollformat-DSLR vor, jetzt scheint Nikon nachzuziehen: Immer mehr Gerüchte deuten auf eine baldige Ankündigung der Digitalen Spiegelreflex-Kamera D4 hin.

Mit 16,2 Megapixeln soll die Pixel-Anzahl etwas unter der der EOS 1D X (18,1) liegen, bei den ISO-Werten hingegen ist von überragenden Zahlen die Rede: Demnach soll die Nikon D4 standardmäßig eine Lichtempfindlichkeit von ISO 100 bis 102.400 aufweisen, mittels ISO-Boost soll der Bereich sogar von ISO 50 bis auf ISO 204.800 erhöht werden können.

Der Autofokus soll laut über 51 Messpunkte verfügen und die Serienbildfunktion 11 Fotos pro Sekunde belichten. Der integrierte Ethernet-Anschluss soll die Datenübertragung erleichtern, alternativ lässt sich auch das bereits erhältliche WLAN-Modul WT-5 anschließen. Zum Speichern der Bilder auf der Kamera wird die Nikon D4 angeblich das neue Kartenformat Compact Flash XQD unterstützen, das tatsächliche Datenübertragungsraten von mindestens 125 MByte pro Sekunde ermöglichen soll.

Es wird erwartet, dass Nikon die D4 im Rahmen der Elektronik-Messe CES Anfang Januar 2012 offiziell vorstellen wird.

NIKON D800 - from rumors to reality

Seit mehr als einem Jahr wird nun schon über den Nachfolger der D800 spekuliert. Das von vielen anvisierte Datum der Vorstellung für Ende 2010 hat sich genauso wenig bewahrheitet, wie auch die geplante Vorstellung im März/April. Nach vorliegenden Informationen erblickt die neue Nikon D800 das Licht der Welt höchstwahrscheinlich zur CliQ (vormals) PMA im September 2011. Dies würde sich auch mit dem Erscheinungsdatum des geplanten Nikon Kamerahandbuchs decken, welches ebenfalls für September 2011 vorgesehen ist.

Update vom 19.12.11 – weiter unten!

Die oben genannten Infos werden durch einen Blogbeitrag des Fotografen Claudius Schulze gestützt, der bereits eine pre(order) für die neue Nikon D800 abgeben durfte.

Im Hinblick auf die zukünftigen Spezifikationen der neuen Nikon D800, gibt zwar noch immer keine absoluten verlässlichen Informationen. Dennoch dürften die leicht geänderten Specs so manchem wechselfreudigen Fotografen den Mund wässrig machen. So gibt es Hinweise, dass Nikon der D800 neben einem 16-20 Megapixel großen FX Farb-Sensor auch ein 12 Megapixel großen Schwarzweiss Sensor spendieren wird. Ich hoffe ich liege hier nicht falsch, aber der Vorteil eines reinen S/W Sensor wäre ein viel höherer Dynamikbereich beim Konstrastverhältnis. Vielleicht hätten wir S/W Fotografen endlich mal ein ähnliches Verhältnis wie beim analogen Filmmaterial. Allerdings kann ich mir zwei Bildsensoren in einer Kamera nur schwer vorstellen.

Aufgrund der Baugleichheit zur jetzigen D700 und obwohl ein neuer Batteriegriff (MB-D10i) für die D800 entwickelt wurde, soll auch der “alte” MB-D10 passen. Das würde ich gut finden, sofern der neue Batteriegriff keine zusätzlichen Funktionen bietet. Zudem bietet die neue Kamera die Aufnahme von Full-HD Video mit 120 Bilder pro Sekunde. Ein klappbarer 3,3 Zoll großer Monitor befindet sich ebenso an Bord, wie auch ein 100 Prozent Sucher.

Weiter wurde der Video AF verbessert und die minimale Verschlusszeit beträgt 1/16000 Sekunde. Hier muss doch das Herz für Sportfotografen höher schlagen, oder? Im Gegensatz zu dieser extrem kurzen Verschlusszeit werden wohl auch die Langzeitbelichtungs-Freaks (so wie ich) durch Einsatz einer neue Technologie (keine Ahnung was…) berücksichtigt werden.

UPDATE vom 13.10.2011:
Die Hinweise auf eine Vorstellung der neuen Nikon D800 noch in diesem Monat verdichten sich. Im Gespräch ist demnach der 26. Oktober als Vorstellungstermin. Nach wie vor bin ich gespannt, ob Nikon tatsächlich Modelle mit unterschiedlichen Auflösungen vorstellt. Da die Konkurrenz bekanntlich nicht schläft, wird auch Canon in diesen Tagen eines neues FX Modell vorstellen.

UPDATE vom 24.10.2011
Nach derzeitigen Informationen wird es sehr wahrscheinlich keine Vorstellung der neuen D800 am 26.10.2011 geben. Einen neuen Termin gibt es bisher noch nicht. Hintergrund sind die schweren Überflutungen eines Industriegebietes in Thailand. Nikon unterhält hier eine Fabrik, bei der vorzugsweise Einsteiger DSLRs produziert werden. Allerdings finden sich hier neben zahlreichen weiteren Elektronik- und Kameraherstellern auch Zulieferer für Nikon-Pro Bodys.

UPDATE vom 05.11.2011
Nach wie vor ist Nikon durch die Überflutung in Thailand schwer angeschlagen. Immer noch stehen die Wassermaßen in den betroffenen Gebieten mannshoch und es wird wohl noch ein Zeit lang dauern, bis die Wassermaßen zurückgehen. Nach aktuellen Informationen kommt der 36 Megapixel Sensor für die D800 von Sony, welcher auch in dessen Spitzenmodellen Verwendung finden wird. Da Sony ebenso stark von den Überschwemmungen betroffen ist, wird sich die Produktion wohl bis Anfang 2012 verschieben. Aufgrund der derzeitigen Lage, ist mit einer Vorstellung der Nikon 800 nicht for Anfang oder Frühjahr 2012 zu rechnen.

Update vom 20.11.2011:
Vor ein paar Stunden sind bei nikonrumors die ersten Bilder der neuen Nikon D800 aufgetaucht. An den bereits veröffentlichten Spezifikationen hat sich demnach nichts geändert.

Auf den Bildern kann man allerdings sehen, dass sich Anordnung der Knöpfe und dessen Erscheinungsbild leicht geändert hat, so zum Beispiel das Haupteinstellrad auf der linken Seite. Der Video-Aufnahmeknopf befindet sich direkt neben dem Auslöser und die Umschaltung der Foto-, Videofunktion befindet sich auf der Rückseite, dort wo man vorher den AF-Modus ausgewählt hatte. Auch wird die neue D800 wieder über einen eingebauten Blitz verfügen. Im Rahmen der Gerüchte wurde ja immer wieder mal spekuliert, ob sich das Bodylayout an der D3 orientieren würde – die hat ja keinen internen Blitz. Vom Layout hätte ich ein D800 im Design der D3 favorisiert, aber man kann ja nicht alles haben.

Natürlich gibt es wie immer noch kein Vorstellungs-, geschweige den ein Veröffentlichungsdatum. Es bleibt weiterhin spanned, aber das Warten lohnt sich auf jeden Fall.

Update vom 10.12.2011:Scheinbar hat das Warten nun absehbares Ende. Das Promotion-Video, welches in Chicago gedreht wurde, ist nun abgeschlossen. (via nikonrumors) Die Vorstellung des neuen Systemblitz SB-910 ist ebenso vorbei. Was kommt nun? Nach meinen Informationen könnte die D800 im Januar 2012 vorgestellt werden. Die ersten Bilder der ISO-Performance der D800 sind aufgetaucht. Zwar handelt es sich offensichtlich um ein Pre-Modell der D800, lässt aber bereits die ISO-Qualität erahnen. Sofern die Exif-Daten stimmen, wird sich die Megapixel Anzahl nicht mehr ändern. Ich habe zwar hier andere Informationen….aber die scheinen sich wohl leider nicht zu bewahrheiten.

Jetzt gibt Nikon offensichtlich Gas. Soeben wurde der 6. Januar 2012 als Vorstellungstermin für die D4 genannt. Nach meinen Infos soll vor der CES in Las Vegas eigentlich auch die D800 vorgestellt werden. Auch wenn es sich bei dem 6.01.12 um kein offizielles Nikon-Datum handelt, so wissen wir wenigstens wann die Reise startet. Angeblich soll zumindest die D4 schon Ende Januar versandfertig beim Händler stehen. Das klingt zwar auf den ersten Blick unvorstellbar, wenn man aber die Tatsache bedenkt, dass beide Kameras schon im November vorgestellt werden sollte, dann würde es ja wieder passen. Ob allerdings die Nachfrage bedient werden kann, ist fraglich. Immerhin hat Nikon noch mit den Nachwirkungen der Thailand-Flut zu kämpfen, mal abgesehen von den tragischen Schicksalen, die sich dort ereignet haben.

The EVF has built in eye-detection so that it can automatically switch on when needed, and features dioptre correction. Apart from the larger zoom control on the back of the camera, the accessory / flash hot shoe, and the 1.44 million dot EVF, the V1 controls are pretty much identical to the J1.

Ergonomics - There are a good number of buttons, with a mode dial on the back, although the mode dial is quite limited giving the choice of motion snapshot, smart shot selector, normal photo, and video mode. It seems a little surprising that the V1 doesn't include additional more advanced modes on the dial on the back. There is a small raised bar at the front to aid in gripping the camera, and on the rear is a good size rubber thumb grip. The mechanical shutter sound is very quiet, or for complete silence when shooting you can choose the electronic shutter. The collapsible lenses have a clever feature built in, if you press the button and twist the lens to unlock it when the camera is off, the camera will automatically switch on, because presumably the only reason you'd be unlocking the lens is so you can take photos. Clever.

The lack of a built in flash could be of concern for some, as the optional flash is not as compact as other mirrorless flash systems. Although it does offer more features, by being adjustable (it can point forwards, and tilts 60, 75 or 90 degrees up for bounce flash), it also rotates 360 degrees, and includes an LED illuminator light.

The back of the flash features an on/off switch, and with the flash switched on the following options become available in the photo menu: flash mode (fill, red-eye reduction, red-eye slow sync, slow sync, rear curtain slow sync), flash control (TTL or Manual), Flash compensation (+1 to -3).

Menus - There are three main sections, playback, photo, and setup. When the photo mode is selected with the dial on the back, you can then change the exposure mode in the menus to choose between: Scene auto selector, Programmed auto, Shutter-priority auto, Aperture-priority auto, and full Manual. The scroll wheel is used to scroll through the menu options, although it's quite sensitive and sometimes it will scroll through a little too quickly. The F (Function) button on the back will let you choose the shutter mode from mechanical, electronic, and electronic (Hi), with the last option being used for high speed continuous shooting. In the video mode it lets you choose between HD and slow motion video.

Battery Life - Battery life is rated at 400 shots according to CIPA standards, we took over 450 shots with 65% battery life showing as remaining. In the setup menu you can view the battery info where it will tell you the charge remaining (eg 81%), and battery age (0-4, with 0 being new).

Speed - With 135 focus areas (Single-point AF) and Auto-area AF with 41 focus areas the focusing system on the Nikon 1 V1 should be very responsive, and gives excellent control over what you are focusing on letting you choose any position from the 135 focus areas.

We took a number of shots to test the camera's responsiveness, from switch on to first photo, shot to shot, focusing speed etc. We take a number of shots and then use the average to ensure accurate and consistent tests, making it easy to compare with other cameras. We have shown the Panasonic Lumix GF3 here as a comparison.

Continuous shooting is as fast as advertised, shooting at 10, 30 or 60fps using electronic shutter (Hi speed), and you can take up to 33 shots at 10fps, and 30 shots at 30 or 60fps. Shutter response was excellent, and focusing was very quick matching the Panasonic Lumix GF3 (and PEN Mini), but seemed slightly slower at the telephoto end of the zoom lens. Switch on time was better with the 10mm lens and was reasonably quick. Shot to shot time was a little slower than expected and there doesn't seem to be any way to switch off reviewing the photo after taking it. These high speed shooting options are available whether shooting JPEG, RAW or JPEG+RAW.

The photos show excellent skin tones, lots of detail and very little to no red-eye with the speedlight flash. Colour is very good, with saturated reds and blues, without being overly saturated.

The lenses performed really well in a variety of conditions, with perhaps the 10mm pancake lens standing out as the star lens of the three tested. Vignetting was not noticed, although partial vignetting was spotted on the 30-110mm telephoto lens at full zoom (110mm).

There was some barrel distortion at wide-angle (10mm) on the 10-30mm lens, some on the 10mm pancake lens, and some at wide (30mm) on the 30-110mm lens but it was not excessive. Some pincushion distortion was visible at telephoto on the 10-30mm, and 30-110mm lens. The distortion was barely noticeable in real world shots.

Some purple fringing was visible on all lenses, the 10mm, 10-30mm and 30-110mm in areas of high contrast. There was very little chromatic aberration noticed. Ghosting / Flare - the lenses coped very well shooting into the sun or with the sun just out of frame.

Detail in corners seemed slightly worse with the 10-30mm lens at 10mm compared to the 10mm pancake lens, and when the 10mm pancake lens was stopped down to around f/5.0 detail was excellent. The 10-30mm lens gave the best macro performance when used on the telephoto setting, and in comparison the 10mm and the 30-110mm lenses could not get as close to the subject.

ISO Noise performance: Low noise at ISO100/200, with some noise becoming more noticeable as the ISO setting increases to ISO400 and ISO800. It's at ISO1600 that coloured noise becomes more noticeable, but results are still good up to ISO1600. At ISO3200 noise is beginning to be quite noticeable, and it begins to distract from the image. ISO6400 shows softer than expected results, with black and white dots, although colours are still strongly saturated.

Compared to the 10 megapixel Nikon Coolpix P7100 at ISO400 the P7100 is showing more coloured noise compared to the V1, and at ISO800 the P7100 is applying much stronger noise reduction to reduce the coloured (chroma) noise. As the ISO setting increases the image quality of the P7100 continues to degrade with increased colour loss, while the V1 images still appear detailed and colourful in comparison. The V1 still produces usable images at ISO3200 with very little colour loss, while the P7100 doesn't really, and images should be resized. ISO6400 is very soft on both cameras, but the V1 shows much more colour (in the coloured squares) while the P7100 has strong colour loss.

Auto white balance: The camera produces very good results particularly using auto white balance, with very little difference between auto white balance and the tungsten preset. Under fluorescent lighting better results were obtained when using auto white balance, with the fluorescent preset giving a slight magenta cast. Some signs of moire are visible in the fabric pattern in the case in the middle of the picture, and detail is very good for a 10 megapixel sensor.

The camera doesn't feature a panoramic mode or any "digital filters" or effects, and the scene modes can't be manually selected, instead there is just auto scene mode selection or P/A/S/M modes. To enhance dynamic range, the camera has the option to switch on D-Lighting, this adjusts the shadows ton bring out more detail in them.

Smart Photo Selector (SPS): Flash is not available, but the LED illuminator on the speedlight is available. The camera takes 30 photos and then presents the 5 best photos, with one of the photos highlighted as the best overall, all 5 photos are saved to the memory card as JPEG or RAW if selected.

The Motion Snapshot or "Living Picture" as Nikon like to call it, takes 1 photo, and 1 slow motion video - 1 second and then when played back on the camera it plays the video then shows the photo with one of four pieces of music (chosen pre-shooting). The files are saved on the memory card as a JPEG 3840x2160, and as a separate 1080/24fps MOV video file, both files have the same name, both starting with NMS and the JPEG ending in .JPEG, and the video file ending in .MOV. An example of the photo is shown above, and the video can be seen here. Flash is not available, but the LED illuminator on the speedlight is available.

Video: Video is recorded at 1080/60i, 1080/30p, 720/60p, with stereo sound, video sound options are: auto sensitivity, high, medium, low, and off with the option of wind noise reduction on or off. Fade in/out black or white is available. Slow motion options are: 400fps (640x240) or 1200fps (320x240) the later mode needs better than indoor lighting. Both of the slow motion video modes can only record 5 seconds, and examples of all of these video modes are available on the ePHOTOzine Youtube page.

Lenses available:

The lenses are all optimised / designed for both still image quality and video recording with quiet auto-focus and motors in the power zoom models, and white balance is optimised for each lens. The first three zoom lenses are all retractable / collapsible making them more compact when not in use.

A Nikon FT1 adapter is available for Nikon lenses - and with AF-S / AF-I lenses Auto Focus will work. With a 2.7x crop factor, a 35mm standard lens will become a 94.5mm equivalent lens, and this crop factor would suit telephoto lenses particularly if you're interested in having as much zoom as possible. Another way of looking at this is to think of the Nikon 50mm f/1.8 D lens, which is available for around £90, would become a 135mm f/1.8 telephoto lens, which means getting a bright telephoto lens would be very cheap looking at the price of the lens on its own.

Future lenses are already under development with 7 prototypes being shown including a number of thin zooms, portrait, and macro lenses, for details have a look at the future lenses and prototypes here. It will be interesting to find out the specifications of these lenses when they are officially announced.

Value For Money

Available from the 20th October 2011 the Nikon 1 V1 is priced at £829 with kit lens. This makes it a premium priced camera, most closely matched to the Panasonic Lumix GH2 (£739), Olympus PEN E-P3 (£775), Sony NEX-7 (£1250), and Samsung NX200 (£699 - although worth noting the recent RRP price drop to £459) and the rest of the compact system camera market is cheaper still. See ePHOTOzine's Top 11 Mirrorless cameras for more alternatives. I suspect the Nikon 1 J1 at £549 will be the preferred choice, with the £250 premium for the Nikon V1 may put people off?

Nikon 1 V1 Verdict

The Nikon 1 Series is like a more compact mirrorless system, with a smaller sensor than the Micro Four thirds system, it allows smaller lenses, and the 10 megapixel sensor achieves an amazing 60fps shooting, high speed video and full HD recording. Nikon has used the high speed sensor to develop "Motion snapshot", a combination of video and a photo, as well as Smart Photo Selector that chooses the best 5 photos from 30 taken at 30fps.

Whilst this may be useful for a number of people who want to make sure they capture the moment, and gives them both video and high speed photo, it's the 60fps shooting and high quality video that are most likely to interest readers of this site. Continuous shooting is excellent: 60fps at full resolution is generally unheard of except in high end video. Does anything even come remotely close to this? Although it seems a shame that there is not the option to use the high speed shooting for other things, such as auto exposure bracketing, auto-HDR, and auto-panoramic modes, options strangely missing from the camera.

The lens line up is lacking in bright aperture lenses, and it will be good to see if the future lenses address this. The camera features hybrid AF, with contrast and phase detection built into the sensor, and provides extremely fast focusing, although perhaps focusing isn't always as quick as intended, with the Panasonic GF3 / Olympus PEN Mini focusing more quickly at times.

Image quality is very good, with great colour, and detail, although ISO noise is not as impressive as M43 cameras, but noticeably better than serious compacts, such as the Nikon Coolpix P7100, particularly at higher ISO settings.

The price of the V1 seems expensive compared to other mirrorless cameras and the consumer orientated features (lack of AEB, Manual controls on the mode dial, etc) could be a disappointment to some. If you can live without the EVF, and don't mind a smaller buffer then the J1 appears to be much better value for money, although with a shorter buffer for continuous shooting.

I can imagine the 1 series being very popular with consumers and people who want the high speed and high quality video, and the Nikon 1 V1 certainly delivers that. Or for those that want a more compact mirrorless camera, the kits lenses available so far (10mm, 10-30mm, 30-110mm) are very compact thanks to the pancake design and collapsible zooms. However, I suspect that more serious photographers or more adventurous may find some of the limitations a little puzzling.

The Nikon 1 V1 offers great image quality and extremely rapid continuous shooting and fast focusing.

Sensationell Schnell

Capturing movement in a picture is an insane paradox which most of us wouldn’t even try to crack. Not so for Max Malatesta. The 41-year-old actor takes on this challenge, relying on only one true companion: his Leica X1.

Q: That’s a pretty unique incident. How did the Leica story continue?

A: Well, when Leica announced the X1, I started to read a lot about it. When the model finally hit the stores, I watched it through the shop windows a hundred times. Eventually, when the silver package was lying on my desk, I acted like a little kid who is right about to blow out the candles at his seventh birthday. The camera came with a small certificate that had a signature on it. It was the name of the technician, who had built it, and I thought, “Wow, somebody assembled this camera just for me”. It was just a small detail, but it blew me completely away.

Q: Did the way you take pictures change through the X1?

A: I have to admit that the X1 taught me a lot about photography. At the beginning I was a bit concerned that the steady lens might be a limitation to my style, but it isn’t. It’s actually the reverse. It forces you to literally take a stand before you capture a certain situation. Also, the camera is so quiet that I can barely hear the shutter. That is one of the details I like a lot, because it allows me to take pictures without distracting people. And last but not least, there is this magnificent optical viewfinder that allows you to concentrate on the essentials. The X1 allows you to focus on the things that are happening right in front of you and in your heart.

Ein nicht ganz so ernst zu nehmender Vergleich der Fujifilm X100 (Antwort von Fuji auf die Leica X1) mit der Leica M9...man vergleicht hier Birnen mit Äpfel...oder Porsche mit Aston Martin (einfach nicht vergleichbar...)

NIKON D700 - best of faces

Hier ein paar Fotos mit der NIKON D700 aufgenommen anlässlich der Cisco Connect im Schweizer Fernsehen, November 2011. Objektiv NIKON 24-70mm f/2.8, NIKON 70-200mm f/2.8, NIKON SB-900 (mit vertikal Bouncer) - out of camera!
Das NIKON 24-70mm f/2.8 ist einfach affenscharf und der FX-Chip der D700 ist nach wie vor unerreicht in dieser Preisklasse (obwohl schon fast 4 Jahre alt). Hoher ISO-Bereich? No problem. Wundervolles Bokeh (Bokehlicious...yeah!) Wer braucht mehr als 12 Megapixel...?

Die kompakte Sony NEX-5D bietet den grössten Vorzug einer Spiegelreflex-Kamera, nämlich Wechselobjektive. Trotzdem ist das Gehäuse so klein, dass auf einen optischen Sucher verzichtet werden musste; stattdessen wird das Bild über das grosse, kippbare Bild kontrolliert.

Der APS-C-Sensor löst mit 14,2 Megapixeln auf und zeigt ein sehr gutes Rauschverhalten bis 6400 ISO; es liegt aber noch mehr drin, wenn im RAW-Modus fotografiert wird und anschliessend eine spezialisierte Software für das Entrauschen zum Einsatz kommt.

Die Kamera wird im Kit geliefert, zusammen mit dem Weitwinkel F2,8/16 mm (24 mm bei KB) und dem Zoom 3,5-5,6/18–55 mm (27–83 mm bei KB). Wer noch mehr Auswahl benötigt, kann über einen Adapter auf die Objektive von Sonys Alpha-Serie zurückgreifen. Ich habe den Nikon Adapter für meine zahlreichen Nikon Objektive im Einsatz. Hier muss jedoch die Schärfe selbst geführt werden, d.h. für Action Fotos nicht geeignet.

Zu den Besonderheiten der NEX-5 gehören das Filmen in Full-HD (1920 x 1080) und ein ausgezeichneter Panoramamodus, der vor allem im Freien überzeugt.

SONY NEX-5 Test mit Nikon 135mm f/2D AF DC-NIKKOR

Der folgende Test wurde mit der SONY NEX-5, dem Objektivadaper Nikon G/F - Sony NEX E-Bajonett (gekauft bei Amazon http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B003X1QE9Y/ref=oss_product ) und meinem NIKON 135mm f/2D AF DC-NIKKOR gemacht. Zu beachten ist, dass man die Schärfeeinstellung selber vornehmen muss. Die folgenden RAW-Bilder kommen direkt aus der Kamera und sind nicht bearbeitet:

Mit der neuen Leica M9-P bekommt die M9 eine Zwillingsschwester. Beide sind technologisch 100 %ig identisch und verfügen über die gleichen leistungsstarken Qualitäten. Sie unterscheiden sich einzig in wenigen, aber charakteristischen Details.

Leica M9-P

Durch die kompakte Größe der M-Kameras, ihr unauffälliges, reduziertes Design und das leise Auslösen werden M-Fotografen von ihrer Umgebung nicht als solche wahrgenommen. Noch unauffälliger fotografieren sie mit der Leica M9-P. Denn sie trägt statt des roten Punkts auf der Vorderseite einen dezenten Leica Schriftzug auf der Deckkappe. Das macht sie noch diskreter.

Der LCD-Monitor der Leica M9-P ist mit seinem Deckglas aus Saphirkristall äußerst kratzfest, widerstandsfähig und nahezu unzerbrechlich. Saphirkristall ist so hart, dass es ausschließlich mit Spezial-Diamantenwerkzeugen bearbeitet werden kann, und zählt damit zu den härtesten Werkstoffen der Welt. Die zweiseitige Antireflex-Schutzbeschichtung des Monitor-Deckglases verbessert die Bildbetrachtung auch bei schwierigen Lichtverhältnissen.

Erhältlich ist die Leica M9-P ganz nach Wunsch mit der für Leica Kameras klassisch silbern verchromten Oberfläche oder einer schwarz lackierten Oberfläche - die M9 in elegantem Stahlgrau oder in Schwarz lackiert. Des Weiteren verfügt die Leica M9-P über einen griffigen Vulkanit-Leder-Bezug.
