DJI Ronin RSC 2: My new Gimbal Setup for the Sony A7S3

While the DJI RSC 2 looks strikingly similar to my old Ronin-SC, there are some key design differences when you compare the two DJI gimbals. The two most noticeable improvements to the DJI RSC 2 are foldability and a new 1-inch OLED screen. The overall design of the DJI RSC 2 gimbal has been further improved and is now even more user-friendly.

New DJI Ronin SC2 with my Sony A7S3, Sony 16-35 f2.8 GM and the Atomos Ninja V

The most important thing for me was the higher payload of 3 kg in total. I work with the new Sony A7S3 and mostly with the Sony wide-angle zoom 16-35 f2.8 GM. With this combo the motors of my old Ronin SC were already overstrained. In addition, the battery of the RSC 2 lasts much longer than its predecessor. With the additional 1" display, all functions, including calibration of the gimbal, can be done and you usually don't need an additional smartphone (except for registration at the beginning). I also bought the monitor arm from SmallRig so that I can fix my Atoms Ninja V to the gimbal.

Once configured, I can use the Ronin SC2 flexibly by hand but also mount it directly on my Berlebach tripod, e.g. for static interviews. This has the advantage of not having to remove the camera from the gimbal.

These are all advantages, but there is one drawback - the weight. I don't want to use the fully charged gimbal for half an hour. Maybe Arnold Schwarzenegger could do that in his earlier days... ;-)

Verdict

Pros: Stabilisation, 3 kg pay load, small package - Cons: Heavy with camera, lense and Atomos Ninja V
