Wildlife & Travel Documentaries on YouTube

As a documentary filmmaker, I travel to distant countries time and again, and I'm particularly fond of southern Africa. But I also like to travel to Nordic countries and faraway Asia. Here you will always find the latest travel documentaries from me or simply go directly to my YouTube Channel.

Kalahari - The Hidden Gem (2023)

This documentary impressively tells the story about an adventurous journey deep into the Kalahari Desert in Botswana and also about the famous book “Cry of the Kalahari” about the researcher couple Mark and Delia Owens who were the first people to live in the mysterious and legendary Deception Valley for five years in the 1970s. The Kalahari has existed as an inland desert since the Cretaceous period (65-135 million years ago). It has experienced both periods of greater humidity and more aridity, documented in fossil dune fields. It was during a period of greater rainfall that the Makgadikgadi Depression in northern Botswana was formed.

Norway - Twilight Zone (2022)

Nearly half of Norway's land mass is Arctic territory, consisting of the two counties Nordland and the combined county of Troms and Finnmark on the mainland, the Svalbard archipelago and the island of Jan Mayen. This film is a documentary about our trip with an expedition ship from Hamburg to the arctic North Cape, along the old postal route of Norway. We left Hamburg on December 9 and came back in Hamburg again on December 23, 2022. We traveled with the expedition ship "Otto Sverdrup" of Hurtigruten Expeditions. The arctic cold of Norway is a fascinating experience - even for a Swiss ;-)
The almost total darkness in winter above the Arctic Circle is on the one hand fascinating (especially for photographers and filmmakers) but also somehow depressing - I could not live there in the winter months - always in the twilight zone.

The Soul of Botswana (2022)

As a wildlife documentary filmmaker and photographer, I regularly spend time in Africa. Our last trip took us to Botswana in May/June 2022, where we went on a specially tailored mobile safari tour with other photographers. Our journey in Botswana started end of may 2022 at the Chobe River and led us south via Savuti, Khwai River to the famous Moremi Game Reserve, far down in the Okavango Delta. The following film impressively shows the Okavango Delta with its many facets of alternating land and water.
