Norway's Trondheim - more than Bakklandet
The oldest of Norway’s major cities, traces of Trondheim’s rich heritage can be seen all over the city center. While it was founded at the end of the Viking Age, it’s still associated with the Vikings and was the religious center of northern Europe during the Middle Ages. With its characteristic mansions and harbor houses, Trondheim was an important hub for North Atlantic trade. For centuries, it was the northernmost mercantile city in Europe.

Bakklandet, Trondheim, Norway
Bakklandet is a district in the city of Trondheim in Trøndelag province, Norway. It is located in the municipality of Østbyen on the east side of the Nidelva River between the Bakke Bridge and the Old Town Bridge. The neighborhood is characterized by small wooden houses and narrow streets.
For many, Trondheim is the historical, religious and technological capital of Norway, and that alone makes it a great place to visit, whether in summer or winter.
