The revelation - Fujinon GF110mm f/2.0

Fujifilm has revolutionised the medium format. There is no other brand that offers a similar range at the price level of a high-end full-frame camera. While Hasselblad, Phase One and Leica still offer medium format cameras at astronomical prices, Fujifilm recognized the signs of the times - medium format suitable for the masses - attractive in terms of quality and price.

It only gets expensive when you buy the corresponding medium format lenses. But the combination of a Fujifilm GFX body with a corresponding medium format lens reveals the unprecedented image quality in terms of rendering and sharpness. This is especially true for the portrait lens Fujinon GF110mm f/2.0. Since its release about two and a half years ago, this lens has been considered the reference in the field of portrait photography in medium format. There is something magical about the rendering of the colours and the bokeh, and I have never seen this in any other portrait lens in the full-frame class - an absolute revelation - 3D pop at its best.

The only drawback is (but this does not only apply to the lens) the sluggishness of the autofocus, especially the eye autofocus. The problem is common in medium format and the cameras are mostly only used in the studio or for landscape photography. Even after the latest firmware upgrade for my GFX50R the system is still too slow - you need a patient model.

By the way - The Fujinon GF110mm f/2.0 is not only suitable for portraits:

Conclusion: For me, the Fujinon GF 110 f/2.0 is a revelation and my only lens for the desert island - but that doesn't exist (any more).

Verdict

Pros: Optical quality, Rendering, 3D Pop - Cons: Heavy, pricey
